Number of Troops to UN Peacekeeping by Country | 2015

Emerging powers have a growing importance in UN peacekeeping: Of UN Member States, they contribute a third of the troops and make a similarly sized financial contribution. As permanent members of the Security Council, China and Russia hold a place apart in this group. Of the emerging powers, only China is simultaneously a veto wielding decision-maker in the Council, a growing financial contributor (6th rank), and increasingly among the top ten troop-contributor (9th). The emerging powers’ closeness with the agenda of the G77 bloc gives them more weight and influence than their general contribution to UN peace operations might initially suggest.
